MATERIAL DONATIONS

Lesedi la Batho has been been fortunate to conduct various outreach and social relief services, providing food parcels, hygiene goods, clothing, baby and winter supplies for a total of 449 families! This is only thanks to the support of generous individuals who contributed to our Coronavirus Relief Fund, and the swift and compassionate emergency assistance from new and existing partners.

A special thanks to Brooklyn Methodist Church and Rise Against Hunger Africa for enabling our food distribution, and Rays of Hope, Nupt Bridal, 4C Recruitment, Lombard Insurance Company, and Gereformeerde Kerk Loenen van Echt (Netherlands).

SUPPORT FOR VULNERABLE GROUPS

Despite lock down measures, we have continued to provide support for vulnerable groups through remote telephonic counselling and material donations. Our community care workers are available to visit beneficiaries at their homes in cases of emergency.

These vulnerable groups include survivors of gender-based violence, commercial sex workers, TB/HIV affected, teenage mothers and local youth - all now more vulnerable than ever.

HOMES FOR VULNERABLE WOMEN

Through our support initiatives, we are closely connected to cases of families most in need. In August, we incidentally met three different women and their families who all had very different stories but the same need - a roof over their head. Through crowdfunding efforts, we were able to build each family a safe and secure low-cost home, contracted by a local business. Now Astrid*, Margaret* and Refilwe* have the foundation to start anew and improve the outlook of their lives - with the help of our continued support.

New Partnership!

We are honoured to announce a new partnership with the German Embassy in Pretoria as of June 2020!

Together, we strive to urgently empower our community with knowledge and resources to reduce the spread of coronavirus. Thanks to the investment of the German government in our work, we are now enabled to conduct training and support to remote families, and provide fabric face masks, anti-bacterial soap and food parcels to families most in need.

We honour the support and cooperation of Germany in South Africa and their efforts to bring relief to the vulnerable people of our country during the coronavirus crisis. With support of proactive partnerships, we can collectively beat Covid-19 in the Mabopane community - thank you!
